The thing to develop in an obstacle training race training is climbing. Climbing builds core muscles, strength and balancing your own body weight. Climbing also enables you to carry and understand your own body mass. This factor is essential in obstacle course training because being able to lift your own body develops endurance and furthermore, it allows you to understand mentally that your mind and body must be synchronized. An obstacle race is both a mental and psychological game which requires alertness and body capability.
The strength of your legs plays a more vital role during obstacle course training. In every skill that you try to develop, your leg is practically used all the time even in plain walking. With this, having strong leg muscles can give you a great edge during the competition. In obstacle race training, give ample time to build your leg strength not only by running, but include biking as well so the leg is developed holistically. Well rounded legs allow you to perform well in all other individual races.
Do remember that your entire body must be attuned to the mind, and your mind must coordinate with your physical body. To be able to achieve this requires two word --- proper training. Kick off with the basic then gradually increase the difficulty step by step as your body adapts in each phase.
